About

I started "Down The Scope" as a way of justifying buying myself a microscope. I love looking at slides of tissues from animals. There is something beautiful about the clustered order of cells forming tissues to provide biological function.

All the amazing abilities that animals display are ultimately governed by the coordinated action of tiny, individual cells. I hope this website will be a resource for those who don't have access to a good quality microscope or slides so they can view and learn about the microscopic anatomy of the animals we share our planet with.

There is nothing more frustrating than looking at a slide and not knowing what's going on. My aim is that each slide should have a set of accompanying videos which describe the main features you can see.

As a veterinary pathologist I have spent many hours gazing down a microscope puzzling over what I'm looking at. I try to source the best quality information possible, but if you spot a mistake then let me know!
